The NSF Center for Big Learning is happy to announce the appointment of Dr. Dapeng Oliver Wu as center director and Dr. Joel Harley as deputy director. Dr. Wu replaces Dr. José Príncipe who provided wonderful leadership in multiple roles over the past three years.

Dr. Wu was Deputy Director under Dr. Principe. His areas of expertise are: machine learning, deep learning, causality discovery, and logical reasoning with research in many aspects including natural language processing, multimedia communication, computer and communication networks, and network security.
Dr. Harley’s research interests complement those of Dr. Wu’s with an emphasis on signal processing, physics-driven machine learning, and artificial intelligence enhanced modelling.
